Celebrate with Rethymno: Welcoming the Olympic Flame!
Join us in celebrating a special event in Rethymno!
Rethymno warmly welcomes the Olympic Flame on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 4:00 PM.
This flame begins its journey from Ancient Olympia and will travel to Paris for the 33rd Olympiad in the summer of 2024.
Rethymno is proud to honor some outstanding athletes, both young and old, from our city.
The celebration kicks off at Sofokli Venizelou – Velouchioti just in front of Hotel Steris, where athletes will proceed towards the Marina and culminate at the Old Port.
They include Dimitris Kokolakis, a former basketball player; Andreas Benakis, a former track and field athlete; Chris Lioni, a weightlifter; Panagiotis Manousakas, a para-athlete in track and field; and Andreas Zissimo, a swimmer who represented Rethymno in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.
Come and witness this special moment as we embrace the Olympic spirit together.
Let’s celebrate these remarkable athletes’ achievements and our community’s unity.
